Sassafras Mountain 3560' - South Carolina's highest point November 16, 2018
For Sassafras Mountain, Ricardo started as low as possible at the trailhead of the Foothills trail (Chimney Top Gap at 2400'). From there, he trail ran the foothills trail to the summit while Uly and Rosalinda drove to the parking lot near the summit and there they did a more scenic 1.5 mile hike on the other side of the mountain.
Everyone reunited at the summit for photos and to film Ricardo playing and singing "Carolina on my Mind". After filming, Ricardo ran down the road to the intersection with the Foothills trail where he started the ascent for a total of 6.4 miles with 1160 feet of elevation gain. States high point rank: 29 |

SUMMITS: Slide show for Sassafras Mountain ascent
SONGS: Carolina in my Mind
While driving through the beautiful hills of South Carolina on our way to Sassafras Mountain (the state's highpoint), Ricardo thought of this great song by James Taylor and decided to learn it and film this video on top of Sassafras. While Ulyana drove, Ricardo learned to play and sing this song (which he had accompanied on piano but never played guitar or sang on). Ricardo was dropped off at Chimney Top Gap where he hiked and trail ran to the summit. Uly and Rosalinda drove to the top (with the guitar) and did a shorter hike near the summit. Once they reunited, they filmed the song near the summit. After the filming, Uly and Rosalinda drove down while Ricardo ran down. After reuniting at Chimney Top Gap they drove to Atlanta to catch a flight the next morning to get the next state highpoint: Delaware.
