Mount Elbert 14,433' - Colorado's High Point
March 23, 2018
Mount Elbert is the highest peak in Colorado and thus it is in both our Colorado 100 highest peaks and our state highpoints lists. Elbert is also the highest peak in the entire Rocky Mountain Range which runs from the border with Mexico to the far north of Canada.
Our ascent of this peak missed calendar winter by just a day, but we were certainly in winter conditions. This meant wearing snowshoes, to not plunge step the entire way, as well as gear for extreme cold, including glacier glasses, hats, buffs and mittens. Colorado's 100 highest peaks rank: 1 State high points rank: 3 |

SUMMITS: Video Trip ReportIn spite of its height, Elbert is not an especially challenging peak when done in summer compared to other Rockies' summits. To add to the challenge, we decided to climb this peak in winter conditions. This was Ulyana's 1st time on this peak and Ricardo's 3rd ascent.

SONGS: Music VideoFor our Colorado State High Point's music video Ricardo chose to feature the very talented Colorado musicians he has the pleasure to work with in his band Milestone. The band features Amy Biondo on vocal, Ed Edwards on guitar and vocal, Dean Kielian on percussion, Mark Diamond on upright bass and Ricardo on guitar and vocal. Here is Milestone performing a song by Crosby Stills and Nash called "Teach Your Children."

This first episode gives you a little taste of what's to come with the Science Shorts/Science Wednesdays series. Think of it as a preview for future episodes where you will see Dr. Ulyana Horodyskyj explain and/or do science on mountains and volcanoes around the world, talk about fascinating scientific facts and explain why science and scientific thinking is important in our everyday lives.
