Lakewood Park (Britton Hill) 345' - Florida's high point November 13, 2018
We began our southern tour to get the highpoints of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Delaware by flying to Atlanta after picking Ricardo's mom in Austin, TX on November 12 and driving to Albany, Georgia to see the Ray Charles Memorial (see photos on the Georgia Highpoint page). That evening, we drove to Dothan, Alabama to spend the night.
The next day we drove to Lakewood Park to get Florida's highpoint. On our way there a bridge we were starting to cross was blocked by a car that caught on fire. We had to wait and witness the car being completely destroyed by fire. Florida's highpoint has a nice trail starting at the highpoint and doing a loop of a little more than a mile which we enjoyed walking after all the hours of driving in rain. After this we drove 4+ hours to Oxford, AL once again in the rain to spend the night and prepare for our next state highpoint: Cheaha Mountain in Alabama. State highpoints rank: 50 |
