Gannett Peak 13,804' - Wyoming's High Point July 27, 2020
Gannett Peak was Ricardo's 50 state highpoints finisher! It was not an easy ascent, given the long distances and the heavy packs. It is considered one of the most difficult state highpoints, amongst Denali (Alaska), Mount Rainier (Washington) and Granite Peak (Montana).
Our approach was via Dubois, Wyoming, along the Glacier Trail. Though it's reported as 50 miles, we tracked 60 miles, round-trip, along the trail. The approach was stunningly beautiful and summit day was spectacular, encompassing our favorite things: scrambling and glacier climbing to a summit that looked like it belonged in the Alps! State Highpoint rank: 5 |
