Brasstown Bald 4784' - Georgia's highest point November 15, 2018
We did a fall ascent of Brasstown Bald as part of our Southern tour. We did Florida's HP on November 13, Alabama's HP on November 14, and this one on the 15th, before continuing on to South Carolina and Delaware's high points.
There are many options on how to do this one. You can drive to a high parking lot and hike a little more than half a mile to the summit. You can be driven to the top by a van or you can actually hike the mounatin the way we did it: we used the Jacks Knob trail. We hiked 7.4 miles round trip and gained 2080'. Ricardo's mom joined at the upper parking lot and hiked to the summit and back to her car. Our friend Sandeep Rampally joined us for the full hike. Thank you Sandeep! State highpoints rank: 25th |

SONGS; Georgia on my mind
Getting to the high point of the state of Georgia we got a chance to drive through Albany, Georgia, the birth place of one of my biggest musical influences: Mr. Ray Charles. Ray's version of this classic tune is actually the official state song for Georgia. While official state songs tend to be old tunes that are often pretty corny or just plain bad, this one is probably the best of all state songs!
